In the early morning when I wake and before I turn on the lamp, I sit in the half-light for a while. It helps me unreel the night’s dreams. Sometimes as I wait, other images come. They aren’t dreams strictly speaking, but they aren’t daydreams or fantasies either. These dream-like states use the same metaphoric language as dreams. The messages are often abstract but apply to very specific situations that I can pinpoint during the course of the day. The images chosen, the method of communication seem far more intelligent than I am. More artful.

These are not visions, not three-dimensional representations, but they send me into long thoughts about altered or expanded states. I learned something about these early in life because my father had a wealth of spiritual gifts.
