Whoops! I posted 3 videos from youtube the other day, but from what I could see, those of you who were sent the post by email did not get them. So here are the links. The first is a long interview with Marie-Louise von Franz on Dreams: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DZSoym4OqKw

The second is a short favourite of mine, Carl Jung talking about death: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LOxlZm2AU4o

Alea Iacta Erit

In my last blog, I said it seemed inevitable that Greece would leave the Euro, as a result of which a friend suggested a bet on it, which we agreed: 2 bottles of wine, 1 red, 1 white, £15 each, to be drunk at my place. The bet is that Greece will leave the Euro by the end of the year.

Since the last Greek elections, it does seem that Germany has moved in the direction of being willing to pay more to ensure the future of the Euro, and the Greeks have been becoming more wary of leaving the Euro. Even the main anti-bail out candidate Alexis Tsipras claims he wants Greece to remain in the Euro.

He was born on 28 July 1974, 4 days after the present republic was born. So his Sun conjuncts the Greek Sun, he is in tune with what sort of leader (Sun) the country wants. He is a Leo, with Sun trine Neptune, so he is a natural showman (as is Barack Obama, with Sun in Leo square to Neptune). Venus, Saturn, Mercury conjunct in early to mid Cancer, square to Pluto. There is a hidden (square) nationalist (Cancer) power (Pluto) agenda, and due to the transits of Uranus and Pluto, now is his moment. He quite possibly has Moon conjunct Neptune, as well as Sun trine. So he may not be what he seems. If elected, his terms with the bail-out people may be such that they have to say no, and Greece will leave the Euro, while blaming the Eurozone.

I think the chart for today, set for Athens, is very revealing. All day the Moon (the people) will have been in early Gemini, conjunct Jupiter and Venus and square to Neptune. And the Sun in applying trine to Neptune.

Jupiter in Gemini square to Neptune can be read as false prophets. The people (Moon) want to be saved (Neptune). This is a vulnerable place to be. The right wing candidate Antonis Samaras is promising more of the same, and that is not what the astrology of the day requires. That said, he has Sun conjunct Mars at 1 Gemini, conjoining today’s Moon, and trine to the natal Greek Moon, which is powerful. So he’s going to do well.

It’s looking maybe too close to call. Due to the Neptune influence of the day and in Tsipras’ chart, I’d say he is more favoured. I reckon the outcome will either be another stalemate or a governing left-wing coalition. Either way, Greece doesn’t look like it will proceed down the road of the present bailout conditions, with a bit of renegotiation. A stalemate and the ensuing chaos could lead to a military takeover. Today Mars at 21 Virgo conjoins Greece's Progressed Mars at 21 Virgo.

June's Gemini New Moon: the beginning of the end for Europe?

The Mutable signs are not a good time for beginnings. They are a time for endings. It’s best to start things under Cardinal signs. The signs go through a repeating cycle of Cardinal-Fixed-Mutable, starting-establishing-ending:  Aries-Taurus-Gemini then Cancer-Leo-Virgo and so on.

The Iraq War was begun at 5.33 in Baghdad on 20 March 2003:

The Sun could hardly have been in a worse position for beginning a venture, at 29 Pisces. Similarly, the Angles were all mutable. The war itself was short, but the aftermath was a carnage that went on for years, the reason given for the war – WMD – turned out to be false, and 9 years on Iraq is a fragile democracy that could easily turn into a dictatorship or chaos.

The Euro was launched at 1 minute past midnight in Brussels on 1st Jan 1999:

The Angles are at the very end of the mutable signs, and the Moon at 24 Gemini is late Mutable. Again, the worst possible time to begin a venture.

Look at the New Moon coming up on 19th June:

It is at the end of Gemini, closely conjunct the MC of the Euro. It is almost spooky. It comes 2 days after the elections in Greece, and is a New Moon of endings rather than beginnings. It doesn’t seem to leave much room for doubt that Greece will leave the Euro.

Will that be it? It wouldn’t seem to be if we consider the other 2 major events of this month - the transit of Venus across the Sun on the 6th of June and the exact square from Uranus to Pluto on the 24th. It’s a remarkable line-up of astrological events.

In modern astrology, Venus has become the planet of money (as well as love), and its rare passage across the face of the Sun at a time of economic crisis seems to portend a major event. This is visual astrology, which has a raw power that our usual astrology, based largely on invisible mathematical coincidences, does not. Visual astrology is an astrology of omens, of literal events rather than psychological interpretation.

So it doesn’t look like Greece will just leave the Euro and Europe will adjust and carry on as before. It’s looking more like a catalyst for a whole series of events.

The bigger context is Uranus-Pluto. The Euro Sun is at 10.04 Capricorn, and the Uranus-Pluto square will be at 8.24 Capricorn-Aries. This will be the first of several squares around the Euro Sun.

Either astrology doesn’t work, or we are seeing the beginning of a grand demolition and rebuilding in Europe. The EU (or EEC as it then was) began at midnight on 1st Jan 1958. The Sun is at 10 Capricorn, and again the Angles are at the end of the mutable signs.

Uranus-Pluto isn’t about small adjustments, it is about systemic change. To date, after 4 years of recession, we still have the same system. The other 2 big powers, the US and China, look like they can carry on with the old system, but Europe does not. It may be gradual change in Europe over the next few years as Uranus-Pluto completes its series of 7 squares, and there may also be periods of sudden breakdown, as we are likely to see in the case of Greece.

Putting the Euro chart and the EU charts together, it is possible that the EU itself will disintegrate. In any case, looking at the realities of the debt in countries like Spain, and putting that together with the astrology, it looks like Greece will probably be part of a domino effect, gradual or otherwise, rather than being an isolated case.

And that probably means world recession for a few more years at least. I don’t think we need view that as a bad thing. We are conditioned to feel down unless the economy is growing. Growth, rather than sustainability and the meeting of needs, seems to be the modern criterion for a healthy economy. Recessions are a time for re-considering what is important. Maybe Venus, as a planet of values, also has that meaning in its passage across the Sun.
